Comments: SW Stannard and Fairbanks Mill Mountain

SW Stannard (Stevens Brook Hill) was an easy climb through open woods, encountered no snow. I couldn't find the jar, so I hung a new one.

Fairbank Mill Mountain. We hiked to Top of the Mountain Vegetable Farm, talked to the owner and made plans to stop and visit on our return. We walked Coles Pond Rd.to the bridge that crosses Steam Mill Brook. A few yards past the bridge we headed east toward the mountain, a long slog through deep snow, thick spruce woods and many blowdowns. It was tortuous. Pushing on we finally made it through the snow and blowdowns and into open hardwoods. From here on-out it was a pleasant walk in warming temperatures and a bright sun. We found the jar and signed in, recognizing some of the whackers we have been following: Snowflea, Fancy Pants, Karl Cressy, Zack Porter and Damon Ritter. We decided to take a more southerly route off the mountain, hoping to avoid the deep snow and blowdowns, and we did. It was a pleasant walk off the mountain, returning to Waldon Mountain Rd. and walking back the road to the Mountain Vegetable Farm. We had coffee and pastries in the small cafe and were entertained by the owner with stories about the area and the Fairbanks Mill Village, now just a word on the map.

A great day in the woods with Geoff, Dexter, Doug, and Barb
