Comments
Comments: We did an out-and-back hike to grab Abraham and Ellen starting from Battell Trailhead : 12.65 miles and 4469 feet of elevation gain. Snowshoes all the way. Trail was well packed at the beginning, but we were glad to have our snowshoes especially after the Battell Shelter. There was a lot of snow drifts on the Long Trail because of the strong winds, so we had to re-open the trail most of the time on the ridge. Winds were incredibly strong, especially on top of Lincoln Peak. I was barely able to move forward because of the wind! The toughest section was right after Lincoln Peak's summit. We had to crawl under the trees because of blowdowns or because they were too low. Fortunately, it was only for a short section. The rest of the trail was fine. It was a long way until we reached Ellen. My boyfriend hesitated to continue because he was exhausted after opening the trail. Since we had less than 2 miles left until Ellen summit, I took the lead to give my boyfriend a break and we finally made it to Ellen. Our way back was easier since the trail was already broken by us. We only met two barebooted hikers at the end of our hike while going down Abraham. The rest of the people we met were all skiers. We were the only ones with snowshoes!
Despite the cloudy and very windy weather, it was a great challenging and rewarding hike!
