Comments
Comments: Beautiful winter day today. Felt -35 at the top, important to have the right types of clothes at this time of year. I started my hike at 9:30 a.m. 1 mile from the start of the center of Underhill because the road is not plowed in winter. I took the Eagle Cutoff to join the Laura Cowles. Snowshoes are necessary throughout the ascent. Past the treeline there are several places where the powder reaches the hips. Otherwise it's a mixture of granules and hard snow at the top. An ice axis can be useful in certain places for more security. The descent on the Sunset Ridge went well. Still advised to wear snowshoes, trails still need to be trodden.
