I was a bit worried due to the All Trails reviews that the trail was very challenging, however while it was steep, it wasn't any more difficult than the next 4K. The trail itself felt more like NH hiking than VT hiking in terms of difficulty but was very enjoyable. First two miles were totally ice free and continued at a steep but continuous grade (about 1000 ft/mile the whole hike). After the Battell Shelter, the microspikes in my bag were finally put to use and I was thankful to have them. They're going to get beat up, but wear them from the Battell Shelter to the first scramble because I soon found the taking on and off to be useless. You won't need traction for the scrambles though, they were a little bit wet but totally doable and very fun! |
