Ski Trails from base lodge - Lower Standard, Upper Standard, hiking trail from Mike's Way to summit.
We were concerned about the dirt road to the long trail route to the summit as we heard there was some deep/4x4 kind of mud so we opted to hike up the ski trails. This is never much fun compared to hiking trails but we don't have a 4x4 so it worked. Started our hike at the base lodge in the pouring rain, in snowshoes. Hiked up the ski trail, straight up, under the gondola lift. About a half mile up the rain turned to snow and it was magical. To the summit where people exit the gondola it was about 1.8 miles. From there we went over to the ski trail, Mike's Way, and maybe a couple hundred feet in on the left was the trail to get to the summit. This was approx .75 from Mike's Way to the summit. Trail was mostly deep snow with frozen granular crust and fresh powder on top of that. We had the summit to ourselves and signed the register. Since it was overcast we didn't climb the tower. Slogged back down the way we came and by the time we finished it was sunny out! New England weather at its finest!! |
