Parking is in the upper lot behind the Burr and Burton School. I parked in the lot right at trailhead which was marked as private for the school I believe and also said it would be closed at dusk. Larger lot for Equinox Preserve was very full but suspect this was cars for the school too. Almost all the cars were gone in both lots when I got down about 5:00. |

Couple evergreen blowdowns frozen into the ground approaching the summit |

Equinox and Lookout Rock
Burr and Burton Trail (Blue Summit Trail)
First couple miles of trail is a wide woods road which was dry, bare ground. At the turnoff for the spring, the summit trail continues to the right and this is where the ice and snow began on a much narrower trail- first as a patchy monorail then covering the whole trail. I put on my worn “spring” spikes at about 2.2 miles and realized I would need to switch to my regular winter micro spikes for the descent. Could have used them going up too. The trail to Lookout Rock is relatively flat and about a half mile one way. Views are out to various ski areas- Bromley, Ascutney, Stratton, Mount Snow- partially obstructed to the northeast. At the actual summit is the top of the closed Skyline Drive and the closed Saint Bruno Viewing Center. Acccording to the website they reopen on May 28, 2022. The summit is quite open with good views all around. At the Viewing Center there are signs identifying what you’re seeing to the north and south. |
