| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Road in is rutted out and now frozen solid. Did fine with a Honda Fit but it was tricky. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Ice - Blue, Snow - Unpacked Powder |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction, Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
The two water crossings were near impossible to do without getting a foot fully submerged. Ice on the edges was too soft. Maybe tomorrow it will be better? |

Went up to lye brook falls today, very nice day for a hike. Conditions were absolutely awful though! The warm temps yesterday melted everything and turned it all into a giant sheet of ice. The entire trail is either 100% smooth ice or slightly featured ice with a small covering of snow. Without traction you WILL hurt yourself(like the person who had to call 911 did....). Even with microspikes it was dicey at the end, we barely made it over the landslide section due to the ice. If you're not extremely comfortable with winter conditions don't do this trail for a few days please! Honestly, as it stands right now you need crampons for the last 1/2 mile and or some clever route finding and an interest in taking a risk.
Be safe! |
