Battell Trail to Mt. Abraham summit was packed down. After Mt. Abe summit, the tracks on the Long Trails disappeared, and we broke trail for a while in 1 ft deep snow. Parts of the Long Trail were broken by skiers/riders. The traverse on the Long Trail is sheltered by trees, so we were protected against most of the high winds. We passed Lincoln Peak, Mt. Ellen, and skiers getting off the ski lift at Mt. Ellen. It was a bit tricky finding the trail when the hiking trail crossed paths with the ski trails (2x) at Sugarbush ski resort. At Mt Ellen ski lift, we walked down a bit on the ski run and found the trail on the same side of the ski run. At the next hike/ski intersection, we found the Long Trail wooden sign on the side of the ski run. The descent on Jerusalem Trail was packed down. Snowshoes the whole way. 10mi, 3200 ft elevation gain. Great hike! |
