Trails
Trails: Burrows-Forest City Connector, Forest City Trail, Long Trail, Burrows Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, August 6, 2021
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked at the Burrows trailhead; by 1015 the lot was full, and I had to park a short way down the road.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: One trivial rock-hoppable crossing each on Forest City and Burrows; all others were bridged.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All trails were well-maintained, but Burrows is seeing significant erosion and widening due to hikers not sticking to the trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The LT between the Dean Trail and the summit is probably not suitable for dogs as there are frequent rock scrambles. Forest City would probably present few problems for dogs, and Burrows is definitely dog friendly; I passed several parties with dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: A few mosquitoes on Forest City, elsewhere not too troublesome.

Comments
Comments: This was my second hike approaching the summit of Camels Hump along the LT from the south this year, and well worth it again. This section of trail is not for the faint of heart as there are a few somewhat technical rock scrambles and a narrow ledge on the sheer south face of the summit near the top. But the views make the effort worthwhile. Conditions yesterday were very hazy due to the wildfires out west and it was also warm and humid, making the seemingly endless final push to the summit a bit taxing. This hike is best done in cooler weather! (It can also be done from the Duxbury side using the Monroe and Dean trails.)
