Comments: Well I was ambitious and I went out for the nose and the chin for Mansfield. I figured I was skiing so I grabbed all my alpine stuff, strapped it to my back again and headed up the uphill route they designate at certain times. Sadly Perry Merrill is only from 430-1200 and then nosedive from 1200-0730am. They are not allowing uphill travel on times of ski operation. I saw many skinners up the mountain which was interesting to be around so many people at such an early hour. I made it to the quad chair almost where the toll road heads up out of ski area bounds at 7:30 just in time.

I did not expect the toll road to be groomed all the way to the weather building. I went up to the visitor building and dumped my pack. I then went back to the groomed road and headed up, seeing no traffic on the long trail southbound and only 1 set of old ones heading on the LT back to where my back was. I made my way up to the summit and ran under the tower as the wind had picked up. I was not about to get hit with some flying ice or snow. I made it to the summit by touch and go as I was getting blown around without my backpack and skis on. Sadly the windy increased even on my way back to my bag. It was a great day out (yes it rained a little on me on the way up) but being solo and knowing that the ridge is open almost the whole way, I opted for the chin for next winter. The winds were just too high to test it. So I went to the little warming hut thing, got a Gatorade, waited for my friends to take the chairlift up and we all skied down. I skied the rest of the day and saw the skies change constantly but the wind never let up on the nose side. Next year chin, next year!
