Parked at the winter parking on 108 and went up to the Sterling Pond Trail. Ice throughout and put on spikes. As I climbed up Madonna I started running into patches of snow that could be solid or you could punch through like spring snow. New snow was coming down light at first and increasing through the day.
Continued after Madonna Peak to Beaver meadow turn off on the lt and kept climbing to Morse. Noticed a tree clipped on the left side of the trail and found/blundered into an old trail that went to summit and cannister found signatures of snowflea and coldrivercampcook so knew I was in the right place.
After retraced and went on to Whiteface that was listed as Sterling on old maps. Snow was balling underfoot and made conditions slick. Came back to Chilcoot pass and picked up the ski slope and stayed high so that I dumped out at the upper ski area but avoided areas they were actively skiing. |
