Easy hike up Skylight Pond trail to the Long trail on wet leaves. Side trip to see the pond and lodge. North on Long trail to Bread Loaf. I was finding quite a bit of mud on any flat sections and all the rock sections very wet. Bread Loaf is an excellent name and it is a very long loaf of Bread with the summit at the far north end. Summit marked with a very small cairn. Side trip to the view point. Not many leaves left. Took a bit to find the Long trail north until I noticed the summit trail had blue marks. A backtrack to the nearly 180 degree turn of the long trail. Hike down to Emily Proctor Shelter was wet with running water in the steeper sections of trail. Found another very small cairn marking summit of Mt. Wilson. Hike back was uneventful and had not seen another person until starting down Skylight Pond trail. Met 3 groups coming up. At the last water crossing ( I was using one pole) the pole collapsed as I took a step and I took 2 or 3 splashing steps in the brook to regain balance. Ended up on the side I started. I didn't see anyone and heard no laughter. Readjusted and tightened the pole then crossed the brook. Just a little water on lower pant legs already covered in mud. Anyone doing this hike would have a hard time believing the area is in a moderate drought.
