A great hike up Mendon. We started up the road that leaves off of Brewer's Corner (the sharp turn right after the Bucklin Trailhead). This road is marked by a gate at the start. We followed this nice road for a while and passed a cottage on the left at around 0.65 mi. After the cottage we stayed straight (left) at a grassy intersection. After that we took a right onto a road that descends towards Eddy Brook. (This right turn is marked by a cairn.) Eventually, the road crosses the stream. From here we continued following (or at least stayed somewhat close to) Eddy Brook on the same logging road. (Right after this first crossing there is a narrow gully that peels off away from the stream. According to scottb's report, this flagged route eventually pops out near the summit.)
Anyway, we continued following this road all the way up past three more crossings, after which it begins to climb steadily via long switchbacks. At the top of the switchbacks we took a herd path into the woods that was marked by a large M made out of sticks. (If you come to an old sled leaning against a tree, you've gone too far.) We followed this slightly confusing herd path to the first of three small summit knobs. The second knob has an EXCELLENT view if you take the short spur that leaves the main herd path. The third and final knob is the true summit and is marked by a canister and a sign.
