Sufficient off-pavement parking available in lots around the trailhead. We had a late arrival around 930am and parked in the back of the lower lot. A few spots were available, with more available on our ~3pm return. |

All water easy step through. Levels very low, no water crossings. |

Trail in very good shape, especially for being so popular. |

Many, many happy looking pups on the trail. One being scolded for rolling in something extra gross. Scrambles near the summit didn't seem to slow the pups. |

First VT hike. Beautiful day, great location, views to four states. An earlier update suggests Abraham may be the easiest New England 4k. I'm no expert hiker, but at #23/48 NH 4k, I can't agree with that. Abraham isn't hard, indeed much of it is extremely easy, but the scrambles near the summit were harder than I expected. Our sunny day and dry conditions made them not so bad, I'm guessing wet or ice would be very different. Sufficient hand holds are available on the rock and trees. It's nothing to be scared of, just understand it's more than a staircase.
The string marking alpine vegetation on the summit isn't much deterrent to human or canine feet.
Worth the hike 0.1m north of the summit for the plane crash. Left at small cairn (northbound), herd path quickly leads to it.
Enjoyed nearby dispersed camping by a beaver pond off the Natural Turnpike south of the New Haven campsite, and off Forest Road 25/160 along Austin Brook across the ridge near the Warren/Granville line. Both excellent locations.
Abraham is a great hike, the nearby countryside is beautiful, the roads are steep, and even when it's busy, it's not very busy. Go for this hike! |
