Hell brook is now open until the next snowstorm. That trail is quite difficult in winter, several snow covered icy steep pitches. But the hardest thing to do is breaking up trail with thigh high loose powder at times, so for the next few days that job is done! :) Snowshoes with aggressive cleats are highly recommended, plus crampons for the very last pitch on the summit cone (there is one exposed icy slab where a slip would not be fun...). Surprisingly, I managed to stay on trail for most of the climb up without using a GPS, but lost the Long trail a few times on the way down. Ended up bushwacking in open forest and came back on LT further down. |
