| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We spotted a car at the Barnes Camp at THE BOTTOM of Smuggler's Notch. The NOBO sign is so tiny that we drove past it and later that day at the end of the hike we couldn't find it. Still lots of room at the day lot at the club at Lake Mansfield, still cars from the previous day parked there. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Even after the severe thunderstorm and heavy burst of rain the trail was clear, well blazed and signed. The Long Trail does not go over the Nose anymore, it hasn't for some time. It is stupid when we crossed the Smugs Notch Road the signs by the picnic table area and where AT once went are not much help. We met poor family trying to do a loop and they were headed up Mansfield. We we got down to that intersection there is no sign for the loop and its poorly blazed. Nobo Sign at Barnes is hiding by the building. I swear it takes the two of us to figure out where to go. |

My tracker recorded 11 miles, I thought the guide book added up to 9+. I believe the 11. Squeeze and stretch and scramble to the forehead. Listing Ladders, big drop-off and wide open views make this an exciting and rewarding hike. Fun to traverse Mount Mansfield on the Long Trail. Sorry it doesn't cross the Nose anymore but at least I did it once. We hung out a long time on top of the Chin and had an extraordinary time people watching. Stopped by the Taft Lodge but no one was around. We're making our way north. |
