We left from Maine to hike these two peaks around 8:30AM and arrived at the trailhead around 12:30PM. For a 6 mile hike, this pretty much kicked my butt. Not sure if it was the late start (we are used to hiking in morning hours)or high temps and humidity combined with the BW to Big Jay but I was pretty much spent by the time we were done. It is a nice hike up to Jay Peak and can tell this part of the trail sees a lot of traffic. You reach the summit in under 2 miles where you can get refreshments, hot food, have restroom facilities and great views. Can't really beat that. The BW to Big Jay was pretty well marked with a herd path pretty much the entire way. We lost it a couple times on way back, but found it again without much difficulty. Definitely muddy so gators are helpful and they also help with the thick brush. The red sled is not handing in the tree as of 7-26-19 and that was a huge disappointment to us! I was looking forward in seeing it. All and all good experience and our overnight stay at a local BNB made it extra special. |
