Parking at the end of Tower Road in Dorset. There is space for a couple of cars in a small parking area after the last house on the road after you cross a bridge. |

This little hike was pretty straightforward as far as bushwhacks go. We were up and down in a little over 3 hours. You start off straight up an established logging road for a good 2 miles, with the first 1.5 miles paralleling a nice little stream. At 2.1 miles you will come to an intersection at the top of a knoll. Go Right here and continue up the logging road. And the next intersection at about 2.5 miles veer right again. At approximately 2.7 miles you will see a cairn and some flagging on the right side of the trail - if you want to check out the tower and the view, go right up here as a herd path climbs steeply (only for a short amount of time) up to the Tower (2.8 miles in total). Looking at the tower, the trails goes off to the left side on over to the actual summit. At approximately 2.9 miles you will come to Doorknob Junction where there are some signs pointing you in the right direction, but if there are no signs for some reason, you just go straight from here. The trail continues along a col, where it was pretty muddy in a spot up to the summit of Dorset. The sign had fallen off the tree, but it was still there on the ground. The canister had some papers in it, but it does need a new notebook. The way back down was pretty easy to follow. I found the woods to be peaceful and really enjoyed this hike. |
