Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The 5 ft chasm on Maple Ridge gave my experienced hiking 50 lb lab mix pause. There was no way I could carry or hoist him across. Finally, after about 10 minutes of hesitation, as I hiked a short distance ahead and left him to his own devices, he was able to jump across.
Bugs
Bugs: None in the early morning. As I descended the along Sunset Ridge, after Cantilever Rock, the black flies began appearing and I put on my head net.

Comments
Comments: Mansfield Forehead, Nose, and Chin, Cantilever Rock

Fun rock scrambles up to Forehead. Windy along the ridge but sunny and clear skies. I was a little cold and wish I had brought pants to layer up. One small patch of snow on the way to the Nose which my dog enjoyed digging and stuffing his face into. Had the summit of the Chin all to myself. There was very little wind by that time. Descending Sunset Ridge at 0900 I began to see hikers heading up. Took a detour to Cantilever Rock. Donned my headnet at about 2600 feet. Would not want to attempt this hike in wet or windy weather because of the large portion of the trail is exposed steep rock and above treeline.
