Comments
Comments: We hit the trail at 10 am; the snow was firm and walking was easy. We did put our microspikes on at the car and wore them the entire hike. The lower half of the trail was mixed leaves/mud/snow and the upper portion of the trail was firm, even snow with occasional post holes. The snow is so deep that the cliff on the trail is completely filled in--just a smooth, steep shot to the summit.
The summit is still quite snowy and views today were impeccable! We could see the ADK's, the Greens, and the Whites--catching the full view from the Presidentials to the Kinsnmans and right on down to Franconia Ridge. Gorgeous day!
On the descent, the trail had softened a bit; the snow remained firm enough to stick with microspikes. It was a little sticky and we did have to knock snowballs out of our spikes numerous times midway down the trail.
