I used the Sugarbush's southern trails going up to the ridge and the northern trails going back down. The plan was to use the 'hiking' trails so as get some nice foliage views an ascent and descent. That plan somewhat worked: in the morning clouds were at about 3000' feet or so providing limited picture opportunities low on the slopes. The only views had from anywhere on the ridge were of light shades of grey. Clouds lifted a little on descent but not much.
I was a little surprised at how much mud there was on the ridge. There was no one area where there was a lot of it but the mud patches were constant throughout. I made the visit to the plane crash after visiting Abe. I debated taking some of the non-'hiking' trails coming down but they were all too thick and brushy to deal with. Not a whole lot of people on the ridge: a few LT'ers and a few day hikers was all. Not a stellar day by any means but still nice to be outside. |
