Comments
Comments: The Monadnock Mountain Trail had a moderate, consistently steady grade almost from base to top. Foliage was at or around peak, so there were a lot of fall colors on the hike. The summit was wooded and viewless, but there were excellent views from the cab of the defunct fire tower. No glass covering the windows, so plan/layer accordingly.

Despite it being a holiday weekend, this was a very quiet hike- I only saw seven people the whole time. I would imagine hiking Monadnock Mountain and not seeing anyone else is probably a somewhat common occurrence, since it is much farther north than the White Mountains and, therefore, a much longer drive for most people, and the more well-known and significantly closer Mount (Grand) Monadnock in Jaffrey, NH gets most of the attention. I liked Vermont's Monadnock, personally- the chilly temps combined with an early start, morning fog, and superb foliage made for a memorable hike.
