Steve and I drove up from MA not knowing what to expect but found deep snow 18-24 inches deep, reasonably consolidated and filling the trail completely. Beginning at the right turn below the brook junction, we had to break trail on maybe 6 to 12 inches of newer snow. As others have indicated, the trail is steep and comparable to Liberty Springs below Franconia Ridge in NH. Several other hikers followed in snowshoes after us, so the trail should be good for awhile. This was a great season opener for us -- 6.2 miles round trip, about 2900 foot gain, and beautiful trees full of heavy snow. |
