Comments
Comments: We started out on the gated road/Catamount X-C Ski trail near the Bucklin TH parking lot. In a short while the X-C Trail turned right and we proceeded straight passing a back-country camp shortly. Continuing past the camp the road turns right to another newer camp but the correct route is straight at the former logging yard. Soon after a slight downslope we crossed Eddy Brook for the first of four crossings. After the fourth the road narrows to a skidder type road and begins gaining elevation. At a well defined cairn at 3050' the trail takes a hard left. We continued to follow it via switchbacks to the hight of land on this trail. At this point we took a bearing for the summit and headed into the woods on a well used herd path for the last half mile. With the exception of a small blowdown area the path was easy to follow and took us over the east knob of Mendon and then over another smaller knob with a fantastic view point about 20' from the path and then right up to the summit of Mendon. The true summit and register are on the western most knob. The can was frozen shut and was only hanging by a cord on a dead tree just opposite the actual sign.
