i hiked up the mild ski trails on the right side of the mountain (looking up) to ascend to the top of the ski area. not very direct, but good grades all the way. trails were nicely groomed and made for great snowshoeing. couldn't remember exactly where the connector trail to the summit started so began bushwacking in the general direction and quickly ran into it. it seems i just walked right by it. coming back i short cut over to the ski trails on an icy spur trail. the connector trail had hard packed and postholed snow with a dusting of powder on top. some fresh prints coming up via the at/lt which looked to be well packed out.
i wore snowshoes the whole hike.
my first time ascending stratton via the ski trails and it made for some nice hiking. the ski trails were quite busy heading up, but i had them to myself coming down after they stopped running the lifts. they seem to do a good job making snow over there at stratton. so little natural snow, but nice deep coverage on the slopes. good views from the fire tower on stratton. great to be out.
