Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Appalachian Trail requires wading across 1-1.5 ft of water just a bit east of Sages Ravine campsite. I also had to walk from rock to rock across a stream to get into Sages Ravine campsite since the bridge has been removed.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There is a confusing sign on the descent from Alander to Bash Bish Falls that says "Danger, Trail Closed". It seems this is referring to a trail that is not on the map, rather than the remainder of the South Taconic Trail while heading north. This is extra confusing since it's at a bend in the trail. This sign should be made more clear.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Very few bugs this time of year.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Green stake bag is hanging in Sages Ravine campsite.

Comments
Comments: Awesome hike that included a predawn summit of Bear Mountain. I only saw sprinkles of frost and ice, enough to remind you that the winter is coming but not remotely enough to require winter traction. One good rain and this could change, however!

I only learned after my trip that backcountry camping is currently closed. This wasn't posted on any of the many signs I saw around the forest.
