Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Small lot at trail head for 6-8 cars, 6 cars today counting mine when I arrive with 2 left in the afternoon.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: One large, several small crossings all fairly easy on rocks - for the larger crossings you have a choice of paths, It looks like Irene did a bit of damage at the largest Nancy Brook crossing a good chunk of trail is washed out on the far side.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Numerous blowdowns, mainly in the 4-6 inch range though a few larger. as I recollect - 1 duckunder just after the Forest Service Boundry, a stepover above Lucy Mill, one duckunder on the switchbacks heading up after the cascades, a duck under and a stepover above the cascades before Nancy Pond. One right as you approach Nancy Pond that you skirt around - heading back it does obscure the trail, one step over between the ponds and 2 stepovers along Norcross pond
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: A great trail for the canines with water pretty well avaialble along the entire trail.
Bugs
Bugs: Not as bad as they were last week but the black flies were still out in force. Bug spray did better job of keeping them at bay - only a few bites today.

Comments
Comments: Been wanting to get up this trail and I'm glad I did! Dry trail all the way with a few spots of mud up high in places between the bog bridges. The cascades were amazing. A nice long stretch of walking (after the switchbacks getting you above the cascades) through nice isolated woods with ponds to boot! The view across the Pemi towards Bond from the outlet of Norcross is well worth the walk to get there. Sat there for an hour just looking. There is an amazing beaver dam at the outlet - the beavers are keeping the pond depth up by several feet. Saw quite a few people out today up by the ponds and heard many at the cascades when coming down. Thought briefly about the bushwack up to Mount Nancy but clouds coming in would have spoiled the view.
