Ski trails haven't seen much mowing activity yet, so I went up the access road that weaves up from the bottom of the double chairlift. Generally dry with some mud and water in some waterbars. Access road to the tower also had some patches of mud, but otherwise fairly dry. The bushwhack I used to do from the herd path to the highpoint is less than optimal this year after some new pricker growth and blowdowns. Not much to see from the true summit anymore (clearcut is growing in). Jar is also gone.
Back at the top of the double chairlift, I descended the Upper Morning Glory ski trail briefly, then found stone steps over a snowmaking pipe that marks the new "Summit Hiking Trail," which is reportedly a half-mile loop (never actually approaches the summit). A few stone steps, bog bridges, and areas of crushed stone. The blue blazed (counterclockwise) side seems to be longer than the teal blazed side. The trails meet at a nice view (cut years ago, judging by the stumps) to Newfound Lake. Noted an existing unmarked trail coming up from the south just west of the viewpoint.
A few trees with red and orange leaves, though the majority of the foliage is still green.
Nice sunny afternoon with temperatures in the 60s. |
