Charlie and his pals had faith about the weather and went rock climbing so I decided I would go do a little trail work. I have been into King Ravine many times this year so I decided to take a different route. Weather was warm and humid when I started and I had to remove my glasses since they were no use all foggy. Bridge over Cold Brook is lovely and useful built in 1924. Amphibrach, da-Dum-da! I visited all the sites on the way ColdBrook Fall, Coldspur Ledges, Chandler Fall, Lower Crag & Knight's Castle. I stopped in at Crag Camp to have a snack, caretaker was finishing his breakfast (his coffee looked good but he didn't offer me any), he had a quiet night no one else was there. It began to rain and I sat there for ten minutes and left as it just turned to misting. Above Crag Camp the Spur I got super car washed. At Thunderstorm Junction I met a father-son duo that had just come up Great Gully and appreciated our brushing but there is still plenty more to do. Adams summit socked-in but nice warm breeze and I my pants dried out and I took off my rain jacket. Met a large group of French Canadians, that who they tole me they were and I didn't ask :) Since the weather looked like it was improving I decided to stick to my plan of descending Great Gully and doing a little trail work along the way on our adopted trail. It wasn't long before I had to put on my jacket again. I pulled out my loppers and decided I would do random brushing where it was block view of the route. After an hour of descending and clipping here and there the Sun came out for two minutes before it began to rain again. I decided I better stow my loppers and get off the mountain. I crab walked, crawled and took babysteps all the way down. I could hear voices in King Ravine. I was soaked to the bone by the time I reached the floor of King Ravine. I pressed on and getting out of the Ravine was the most difficult part of my day, getting around and over all the large slippery boulders was no joke. Just before 2 pm in the middle of those boulders up comes four strapping young men that didn't look too prepared and I asked where are you going and their answer was The Top! They were just wearing shorts! Yes it is warm going up but coming down is another story when you're wet. After I reached Mossy Fall, I changed my shirt, put on a fleece and put on my spare rain jacket and had a snack. It felt so much better to be dry and warm. Ended up being a good adventure. About ten miles |
