Bill, Robie and I started up after placing cars at Pine Bend at about 6:45 am from Oliverian brook parking lot. There was scattered ice on Oliverian brook trail and almost none up square ledge due to getting a lot of sun. The little cut off of Square Ledge had boiler plate and needed caution. The rest of the way up Passaconaway was a mix of ice, snow and rock. We met Jason who had come in from Ferncroft and who was doing a loop around the tri's and Tecumseh and returning via trails to the south at the foot of Passaconaway and he traveled with us until Scaur Ridge.
Passaconaway had great views.
There were heavy sheets of ice coming down Walden and as we moved across Dicey Mills in limited places. The monorail was either frozen tight or is becoming quite small all along the way.
There was more snow on Kate Sleeper and evidence of someone having a rough crossing in warmer weather but by and large we felt we had it quite easy. With almost no post holeing.
South Slide was bare. We met a party of four guys and the lab there who said there was some ice in between the Tri's. Coming down off of south was slick as well as the same for middle and north. Some folks would want crampons on these descents. Great views from the all of the Tri-Pyramids as well.
Having said that we met two young guys who bare booted the whole thing as well as a group from Tufts who had come up from Pine Bend looped over the south slide and come back up Livermore with no traction oh to be young.
Great day out with Robie and Bill.
