Comments: My first 4ker climb on my new totally replaced knee (May 2011)

I went thru that hideously painful procedure so I could be back out in the Mts without main-lining Ibuprophen.

5 left on the winter 4000kers.

10 degrees at start 32 at finish.
Zero wind on this epically Bluebird day!

Snow conditions: Primary: frozen and loose granular to 3000 feet then very consolidated powder with some ice on trails. (Great footing with Kahootlas if you dont have MICRO spikes, get 'em!)

As we walked we thought we heard the snow saying "ouch!" .....it's been walked on for so long!
The upper 6 (?) ledges were snow covered with steps kicked in.
Thin cover low to 18 inches high.
The first ledge was, we determined, too icey to descend but doable on the up side.

So .....we enjoyed the ridge hike on The Rollins Trail (many ups and downs (20) maybe 400-500 feet new vertical worth in sum makes this route a 3200-3300 foot vertical climb. A Passaconaway summit would add to that.

Equiptment: Kahootla Microspikes all the way. First day on them for us both....What a great piece of gear. So light your effort is minimized.
Kind on the knees too.

We both felt that replacing our default Denalis with these really cut the effort down.
Did not carry Denalis/crampons or even gaitors thanks to other climber's trip reports.

One of our top 5 days in the Mts. on this challenging and testy barely 4ker!
Thanks to Accelerade for the great fluid replacement drink.

But the greatest thanks to my buddy Loon..without you there would have been no summit !
