Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Looks like some new trees are down on Mountain Trail which I will address tomorrow. Shaw Trail has the most concentration of blowdowns north and south of the Split Rock Junction. The far north and south ends of the trail are in pretty good shape. The Split Rock trail sign is down. The big task today was clearing out a messy hemlock that took some time. Not difficult but involved many many small cuts. I left the chunk on the ground as an easy stepover and the upper chunk is a high limb that's not going anywhere. I also cut out many small blowdowns but several remain due to lack of time today. Mountain bikers should use caution for now.

Bugs: Holy crap, yes. The black flies were awful today.

Comments
Comments: Hiked up and over South Mountain to get to the northern end of Shaw Trail, then worked my way southward. Got picked up by the day crew for a ride back to the shop.

A gorgeous sunny day in the park; the only downside was the bugs! Yecch. Head net essential!
