| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I snagged one of the last spots in the parking area off Tripoli Road. A few cars were parked along the road when we got back. Tripoli Road is in good condition. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |

| Recommended Equipment: |

|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
None on this route. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
One or two blowdowns that can be stepped over. A few muddy spots, but they weren't too bad. We did notice some ineffective-looking waterbars at various points on the trail. There's also a mileage inconsistency - the sign at the trailhead says it's 3.2 miles to Mt. Osceola, but the WMG says that same stretch is 2.9 miles. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
I wouldn't recommend taking a dog up or down the Chimney. They wouldn't have any issues with the rest of the trail though. |
|
| Bugs: |
Two annoying bugs noted on the upper part of the trail. None seen elsewhere. |

This was an out-and-back to East Osceola from the Tripoli Road trailhead. Not a whole lot to report - no major issues, the angled slabs higher up were wet but still provide some grip. The only blazes we saw were in the vicinity of the Chimney, however the trail is obvious and very easy to follow even without blazes. Quite rocky almost the entire way, but we expected that. We all descended the bypass of the Chimney on the way to East Osceola, but on the way back I climbed up the Chimney - it took concentration, but wasn't horrible since there are plenty of handholds and footholds.
Saw plenty of people despite the cloudiness. The summit of Osceola was socked in, but only a couple hundred feet below we had views. Mt. Osceola Trail up to Osceola is gradual, while the section between the summits is steeper in places even discounting the Chimney. It was great to hike with Ben and Arthur, and congratulations Arthur on your first two 4000-footers! |
