| Water Crossing Notes: |
No problems. New looking bridge over Jacobs Brook South Branch, apparently new as of last year. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Daniel Doan - Wet in spots, down lower mostly. Recent drainage work done and appreciated. A couple blowdowns starting near the brook crossing.
J Trail - MUDDY. Mud pits around every corner it seemed like in the first 2 miles north of Smarts. They look to be growing from thru-hiker traffic. Hey DOC, can we get a stepping stone or two in here???
Kodak Tr - No problems I remember, besides a bunch of mud. At a point just north of Hexacuba Shelter it looks like ATVs have been coming up into the AT corridor.
Cross-Rivendale - Great trail. Well built rock steps. No blowdowns I can rememeber. Typical fall mud. |

Great 14ish mile loop over mostly new territory for me!! Up Daniel Doan trail to Smarts Mtn, AT north all the way to Mt. Cube, Cross-Rivendale trail down to Baker Rd, then Baker Road and an old farm road (Old Baker Rd?)back to Quinttown. Walked Mousley Brook Rd .7 miles back to my car from where I came out right at the new bridge at the start of MBR.
Good views from Smarts although obstructed a little bit by clouds. A fun ridge walk on the AT down to Jacobs Brook Rd. I trail ran sections when conditions allowed and made it the 4 miles to the road from the summit in an hour. Nice bridge over Jacobs brook, took a break on a bench at the road. Eastman ledges were very nice, then good climb up Cube with a few nice viewpoints on the way. Didn't take the .4 out and back to Hexacuba, couldn't justify it. Mt. Cube summit was as nice as I remember, cool looking back at all the territory covered. Around 14 miles in 6 hours, cookin!! |
