Date of Hike: Sunday, September 25, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked in lot before gate, but gate was open and lots of parking was available along Ravine Lodge Rd. Could save some walking distance by parking closer to trail heads along road.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant, Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Bridges across major water crossings, many locations walking in or stepping over running water
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Snapper, Carriage road (below AT) and Asquam Ridge not blazed. Trails were in great shape, a few downed trees on Asquam, but easy to get around. Seems like the trail may be re-routed to cut off the corner where the largest is down, rather than removing such a large tree.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Cooper had a blast as determined by the amount of mud he brought home. Lots of flowing water along the trails (Carriage, Beaver, Asquam) to quench a pup's thirst. Extra water needed approaching/on the summits. Mud on trails is significant, and with more rain on the way, expect a muddy pup. Saw several other friendly dogs on the trails today.
Bugs
Bugs: N/A
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Lost purple handkerchief; spoke to a woman who was going to pick it up on descent, hope she can use it.

Comments
Comments: Great day to be out in the mountains, cooler temps, slight winds good views for a while. Goal was to bag Jim, check, all else was a bonus. Trails were pretty gradual with no steep sections, up and down. Snapper and Carriage ascents were more gradual than anticipated, with running water for the pup and almost no mud. Summit was pretty active and views were great but could see the weather coming for the west. Muddiest and hardest section was along Beaver Brook; not a fan of climbing over and down big rocks and some of the muddy spots could not be avoided. Saw no one else on the super gradual descent down Asquam; some running water on this trail, as well. Despite our late 9:45 start, we were able to get to our car just before the rain at 3:45.
