A quick hike just to get out in the woods and visit a nice corner of the whites and the Wild River Wilderness. Easy grades on this trek for all but a few tenths of a mile at the top where it is a bit steeper and other than the old blowdowns this is definitely a cruising trail. Trails were all dry with only a minor spot of mud here and there. Basin rim runs along Blue Brook for a while, crossing it just below a small waterfall, the cliff along the brook is really impressive and alone worth the hike, saw two climbers tackling it today. Further up Basin Rim took the Blue Connector and the spur to the tent site. A really nice ledge that blue brook flows down is about 60 yards past the tent pad, a great place just to sit and relax in the sun. Then headed up the Black angel trail at easy grades for half a mile to the junction with the Basin Rim trail and out the 50 yards to the outlook with views looking over Basin Pond. Headed back down the Basin Rim trail back to the parking lot 5 miles in all. Great weather and some nice views on some less traveled trails, saw only three hikers all day. |
