Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All crossings were low and easy rock hops.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Everything in good shape, and generally easy to follow. Commendable stone work on the Mt. Tecumseh Trail and Irene's Path.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw a dog that made it up/down the Osceola chimney, which is rather impressive. Not sure I would recommend them on the Tripyramid slides.
Bugs
Bugs: Mildly annoying when stopped. I got bitten a couple times, but opted not to use spray, and was out there for 11 hours.

Comments
Comments: Strenuous, scenic, and interesting loop hike in the Waterville Valley area. Took the Mt. Tecumseh Trail up from the ski area, with a side trip on the Sosman Trail, descended to Tripoli Rd., and walked up to the Mt. Osceola trailhead. Then traversed Osceola and East Osceola, and took the Greeley Ponds Trail south (with a side trip to Goodrich Rock) to the Livermore Trail. Next followed an indirect route towards the Tripyramids via Kettles Path / Irene's Path / Old Skidder Trail, before heading back down the Livermore Trail for a mile to reach the north end of the Mt. Tripyramid Trail. Finished this adventure with the Tripyramids, and the easy walk out on Livermore Trail, Tripoli Rd., and the Pipeline XC ski trail back to the ski area parking lot. Views were awesome from Osceola and the North Slide, the Goodrich Rock Trail was an unexpected highlight, and black and white butterflies were out in force. Footing was dry and secure on the North Slide, and while you have to be comfortable with scrambling, the ascent never felt sketchy. Getting down the South Slide was distinctly unpleasant, with looser footing than I remembered from previous hikes- the whole thing felt like a scree slope, with very few stable rocks that provided reliable traction. There was a young couple carefully descending the North Slide, and while I ordinarily wouldn't recommend this, they might have been onto something. (Pine Bend Brook / Scaur Ridge would still be a much safer way down, without the annoyance or hazard of either slide.) Totals for the day: 32.8 miles, 10,000' gain, 11:06.
