Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: From Rt 110A/Muzzy Hill Rd in Milan, I drove north on what’s called Cedar Pond Hill on my iPhone’s maps app. Doesn’t have a name on Gaia. This road should be suitable for all cars. After 0.9mi I turned left onto a spur road not shown on my iPhone’s map app and shown but unnamed on Gaia. Mid-clearance is recommended for this road. It’s really not all that rough or rutted but there are some rocks sticking up that I think would scrap low-clearance vehicles. Also, the grass on the center line is so tall it might obscure your vision if sitting in a sedan, lol. The road descends some to the west, then ascends some to the north and ends in a clearing.

Comments
Comments: Day 242, Peak 238. 2nd hike and 4th peak of the day after Hutchins/Pilot/Mary earlier with a friend. Temps in the high 60s when I started just shy of 6pm.

You have a view of the peak from the clearing and I took a bearing directly to it. Looked like I’d be slabbing very steep up it. I descended slightly into the woods through thick brush, then crossed a drainage with a bit of water that wasn’t moving, then headed uphill into the woods. I tried to slab and was successful for about halfway up but it eventually became so steep it felt like it was easiest to just head right up the fall line. No cliffs, just very steep. I hit the summit ridge about 0.1-0.2mi north of the true high point. I found an ATV road that led to a clearing at the summit which was the obvious highpoint. No register. I only followed the muddy ATV road for a few dozen yards maybe before I took a more direct line back to my car. I was more successful in slabbing down this time but not sure it made things any easier. I crossed an overgrown road or two on my way and was briefly able to follow an overgrown skidder road in the woods that was roughly on my bearing. It would seem one could follow this very overgrown road up a good ways to the peak and I think that may have been what some others described doing in their reports but I just went for the woods as they were open. I popped out of the woods right at my car but had to go over some logs that had been cut and some prickers to get there.

About 1.25mi with 600ft of gain, taking me about 45min. 123 more days and 127 more peaks to go…
