| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Started late at 10am, and passed all the cars parking along Route 16. Amazingly, scored a spot in the small lot (fits 15ish cars) right at the trailhead. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
None! Bridges at all crossings. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
One of the bridges fell apart, so it's some tight rope walking across one log. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Our three active dogs - lab/collie mutt, coonhound/lab mutt, westie found this trail pretty easy with no helped needed The first 2.5 miles (and last 2.5) had constant access to water for drinking and dips to keep cool, even some very swimmable "pools" in the river. They had a blast. |
| Bugs: |
Oddly, the river portion of the hike was filled with just gnat-like, harmless bugs. But once we hit the intersection for the hut, the black flies came out and they were hunting. |
| Lost and Found: |
Yes, I sadly lost 2/3 leashes. How the third one remained is a mystery?! They are thin, very light, 1/4" by 4 feet leashes with brass hardware. If anyone sees them, I would be happy to pay for shipping back to me (via Venmo or Paypal), or if you are NH or MA local, I can meet up somewhere and grab them. |

Great hike for 41/48! The river alongside 19M Brook Trail was such a nice relief on a hot day for both the humans and canines. Overall, love this trail. The final mile ascent to Wildcat A was a stair master, but nothing technical. Just some high knees! The view of the Carter's, the hut and lake were delightful. I won't be rushing back to do Wildcat A, but I would definitely go back to 19M Brook to go down to the hut and lake, or to go back up to Mt Hight. Also, the army of black flies reminded me why I like winter hiking. Is it Dec 21 yet? |
