Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Many water crossings were pretty mellow. I didn't search for rock hops on most of them just waded right through. Was never above knee-height.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of blowdowns, mostly on Eagle Link and East Branch
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: should have taken my pup. would have had a great time today. some scrambles up high but nothing crazy that experienced trail dogs cant handle. water and mud everywhere. water crossings were easy
Bugs
Bugs: miraculously the rain from last night and the high winds kept them away almost all day. Mosquito swarms erupted at noon for the last half mile of hike and the bike ride. bug net came in handy.

Comments
Comments: Had been looking forward to this hike for a long time-did not disappoint. Spotted bike at East Branch and parked at gate on Slippery Brook Road a few feet past Mountain Pond trailhead. Was .7 walk to SB trailhead from there. Really nice, easy ascent. Wind was strongest I've personally dealt with on North Peak, but not that cold. Did not see any snow or ice on this route. Kept trailrunners dry until Eagle Link-10 seconds into this trail they were both submerged and that was the theme for the rest of the morning. Eagle Link has a very long time in Birch woods and the undergrowth is mostly hobblebush, which was popping everywhere today. This and copious amounts of Trillium made for a really beautiful walk down this rugged trail. The bog at the beginning of East Branch was wet but not deep mud or anything, just ankles-deep cold water. Not bad at all. The entire trail alternates between blowdowns, bogs, and walking through brookbeds. Pretty rough, but had some very scenic and pleasant sections down low along the river. I never had any trouble following trails today. Definitely needed to pay attention on parts of Eagle Link, when rest of undergrowth and canopy fills in I can see this trail being crazy overgrown. 16 miles hiking and 4 miles bike ride. I saw no humans today. Millions of moose poop piles and almost collided with one on 116 at 4am.
