| Water Crossing Notes: |
All the water crossings on the Flume Slide Trail were manageable by rock-hopping. Poles were helpful. Water crossing coming down Liberty Springs was a little trickier, but it had rained by then and we were pretty wet, so we just sloshed through. |

| Comments: |
We only brought light traction and debated long and hard about attempting Flume Slide, but in the end all the anxiety was for naught. There were some sheer, slippery spots that all could be easily avoided. We didn't hit patches of ice and some slushy snow until we were almost all the way to the junction with Osseo. We didn't put spikes on until we started the descent from Flume, based on other hiker reports. The monorail between Flume and Liberty was fairly stable and we had no issues with post-holing, though clearly some folks had previously. After another few days of warm temps, I expect the monorail to be unstable and/or diminished. There was some ice descending Liberty Springs, and we kept the shoulder-season spikes on well past the campsite, but we could have probably taken them off sooner. After that the trail was completely dry ... well, at least until the rain and hail arrived. Then the trail was a stream. :) |
