Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All rock hoppable today.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Several blowdowns on Ammo between the trailhead at the Cog area and the junction with the Ammo coming from the forest service lot. Several blowdowns on Edmands Path from the “Gate” and downward to Edmands trailhead lot. One about 4/10s below the Gate at a ledgy area is exacerbating the path that people have eroded around the ledges. Even those wishing to stay on trail, cannot. That one is a pine with a lot of limbs and is laying across the topmost ledge.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw two friendly ones between Franklin and Ike.
Bugs
Bugs: They are out. To avoid them doing the kamikaze into my eyeballs I wore my bug net most of today. They were active at lower elevations and the summits due to low winds.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: n/a

Comments
Comments: Because I didn’t want to mess around with white ice on the steeps about 1/4 mile past Gem Pool I changed out my sharp Hillsound’s and put my full crampons on until Lake of the Clouds hut. The white ice actually starts about 1/2 to 3/4 mile before Gem Pool. Bare boots (mine have small built-in spikes) to Monroe and Little Monroe. Put Hillsound’s on for a small snowfield descending Little Monroe then bare boots to Ike summit and down to Edmands junction. Crawford is mostly bare but with some patches of white ice, slushy snow, running water, and standing water.

Full crampons on for descent of the side slopes on Edmands down to the Gate (there is white ice for another 2/10ths or so below the Gate). That area before the Gate is a mess. A poop ton of ankle and leg twisting post holes, slushy slippery snow, and white ice - besides the side slope itself. There are a couple of very sketchy thick ice flows, especially at the cascade. If you slip, you may be going down a couple hundred feet into the col where SAR will hopefully find you.
