Comments
Comments: Great day to be out. We carried spikes, but they did not get used. Trail started dry, with a few patches of mud and running water. Above 2700 (initially on the Eastman Mountain trail, but also on Baldface Circle) patches of softening snow & ice could be traversed w/o traction. All ledges were clear of any snow and ice, and it was more like walking up a sidewalk to the summit. The tricky section was coming down from N. Baldface summit (before the Bicknell Ridge Trail intersection) were the softening snow patches were more frequent, heavily postholed, and the terrain is pretty steep. In several locations, it was easier (and seemed safer) to grab hold of the tree trunks for additional stability. Conditions were similar on initial half mile descent from the ridge on the Baldface Circle trail. We made a quick excursion to the emerald pool, lovely shade of green.
