Comments
Comments: Crawford Path in good shape bare booting to about 2800'. Spikes were fine after that. Lots of black ice in the morning that disappeared later in the day. Solid monorail to the col between Pierce and Eisenhower. Spikes came off as I approached the Eisenhower summit. Winds were steady at 30-40 with strong gusts so didn't stay long. Monorail was solid but narrow in spots all the way to Mizpah. Mizpah hut is now open and had a nice chat with the caretaker. What a nice place! Continued on the Jackson and encountered a couple tricky faces that might call for full crampons. Used my axe but probably could have just held the trees along the side. Snow was getting soft on trail to Webster and you really have to focus on the monorail to stay upright. Little support on either side and snow is still deep. Trail down was in good shape. Back to bare boots after the Silver Cascade. Glad I had snow shoes in case the trail was any softer but they stayed on my back.
