Comments
Comments: Started on imp with bare trail. On North Carter we put on our nano spikes to stabilize on the hard packed snow with some dampish snow on top. By the time we got to Carter-Moriah 2 of us had the micro spikes on for more traction on the slightly soft top. That snow would be great for snow balls. And it did. Balled up on my micro spikes. Before we got to Middle Carter I swapped out my balled up Microspikes and went back to the nanos. No snow balls, that was better.
Came across a couple with no traction. Good for them.
Kept the nanos on UNTIL... we had started in the Carter Dome Trail. That slippery slope was tough to take with the nanos. A narrow, icy, slippery snow kind of grab onto a tree and hope type of prayer walk. So we sat down, with a tree downhill from us. We had one foot on the tree to keep us from going downhill while we put the micro spikes on the other foot. Micro spikes were needed here. Moved much better. On to Carter Dome. Mt Height Trail was fine. Heading down Mt Height was slippery. slow and cautious or butt sled. Then down Carter Trail to 19 Mile transformed back to bare trail and beautiful brook walk.
