Parking/Access Road Notes: No issue parking at The Basin. Lots of tourist vehicles present when I finished.  
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Wet/Slippery Rock, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant, Leaves - Significant/Slippery

Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction

Water Crossing Notes: All were able to be rock-hopped with no issue.  
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: As previously reported, there are 3 LARGE freshie blowdowns on Liberty Springs. All 3 are smack in the middle of the trail as well. They are easy enough to get around, but they’ll need some decent work to be cleaned up.

Dog-Related Notes: All the ones I saw looked quite happy.

Comments
Comments: Bare trail until about 2500’, then solid snowpack/ice until just before FRT junction. At that point, the snow is much less consolidated, and quite slippery. Between the peaks, it absolutely would have been advantageous to use snowshoes. There is probably 8-12” of unconsolidated powder. I definitely wished I had brought mine along for this area.

No one I passed had snowshoes, so I’m sure everyone had the same experience I did. FRT to Haystack was not broken out when I was up there, but it sounds like Elijah did the dirty work and broke that out.

Full-on winter up there, still. Hard to call the conditions today “shoulder season” when you’re walking through almost a foot of fresh powder…
