Comments
Comments: Super day! Becca and I arrived at the Gilson Pond Campground at 8:30 and I didn't expect it to be open until May and Becca reminded me that Sunday is May. Impressed by how many people are camping in tents this weekend, brrrr it was just 40 when we arrived. Nice walk in the woods up Birchtoft and Cascade and we turned up Spellman and had a good time scrambling up the ledges. We didn't see a soul until we were nearly to the summit, people were walking down towards us. Dozens and dozens of people on top. We went down and found a good place out of the wind between the White Dot and Pompelly Trails and ate our lunch. The Boston skyline was easy to see today. The hoards of people coming up the White Dot Trail reminded me of Lafayette, hundreds of people. I felt like we were swimming up stream as we descended against those trying to reach the summit. Thankfully we took a hard left down the Old Ski Path and didn't meet anyone until we hit the Red Spot Trail. Back on the Birchtoft Trail we ran into several large groups headed up and wished them luck. Back at the car we decided why not walk around the Pond Loop since it was only mid day. Nice views and good hiking today. April is my Monadnock month.
