Comments
Comments: A bit of everything on this hike. Blueberry Ledge Trail was in good shape and dry until after upper end of cut-off when patchy snow started to appear in the woods. Eventually it did cover the trail but I didn’t put spikes on until intersection with Tom Wiggin. Took spikes off again to get over bare ledges, back on to intersection with Kate Sleeper, then switched to snowshoes. The gentleman hiking ahead of me was in spikes and sunk in maybe 2 inches on Kate Sleeper. I wore snowshoes out and back to East Sleeper and was fine. The trail had a few inches of mostly packed snow with only a couple old deep post holes to watch out for. Coming back down the upper part of Blueberry Ledge to a ways below Tom Wiggin was very slippery wet snow after the warm temps during the day which clumped in spikes making the travel quite a bit more slow than going up. I was happy I had spikes and snowshoes but in hindsight I wish I brought my old rock spikes instead of or in addition to my sharper ones. Overall aside from some on and off light rain coming down it was a nice warm day in the mountains.
