Comments
Comments: A great day for getting out on the ridge and hiking these peaks. Fantastic views in all directions. Clouds moved in around three as I was descending. A stiff breeze (10-15mph) on the ridge as advertised but was very bearable. Trail conditions were a mixed bag from start to finish but light traction is all that was needed. Hard packed snow on OBP lower with some ice patches up higher. Bear rock, ice and shin high drifts that were stepped through from other hikers (Thank you) on Greenleaf to the Laf summit. Same across the ridge and there was some small mud patches and puddles. Haystack to LST was hard packed if you stayed in the center and some pesky balling up of snow on the spikes. Previous hiker prints are faint in some areas, but critter footprints led the way. The trail is elevated so eye pokers abound. I came across one AT blaze that was at knee level. Nice mostly packed trail to Liberty and Flume. Packed snow and some ice on LST upper, bear rock, wet, flowing, trail on LST lower. Bike path had bear and hard snow patches; I barebooted. Most treacherous are the underpasses that have water covered ice.
