| Dog-Related Notes: |
Cooper had a blast. He needs guidance and a boost on the Blueberry ledges; additionally, there is still a bit of ice to navigate around for pups. This is not the route I would take w/o assistance for Coop. There are multiple ice flows especially the Rollins Trail, which were not an issue for a trail experienced pup like Coop, but keep in mind when traveling this route with doggos. We did see 3 other pups out having a great time, but all others were on Dicey's Mill summiting Passaconaway (did not climb the ledges); still ice flows but not as bad. |

I was planning on hiking the longer route of Dicey's Mill and Rollins to these peaks just to avoid the ledges with Coop; but, I got super lucky and arrived at the exact time as some friends (totally unexpected). This made for an absolutely fabulous fun hike.
Blueberry Ledge Trail started out icy, with a few sections of bare trail on ascent. As expected, at higher elevations there was more snow, but the trail was packed and easy to follow. The ledges were mostly clear of snow and ice, some patches. Rollins trail was hard packed with several patches of ice that made descending tricky. Dicey's Mill up to Passaconaway was as expected, packed trail with more ice sections. But there are lots of trees along the trail if in need of a quick hand hold. Descending was quick along the monorail with maybe a few short looser sections. After the river crossing the trail is mostly free of ice and snow; some avoidable mud along this section as well. Everyone on the trail today was in spikes, no snowshoes needed. This may change with rain or snow in the forecast. |
